THERAPY CHICKENS
Yesterday we took 4 of our chickens to Vaca Valley Living, a memory care home in Vacaville.  Quite a few residents came to meet the chickens.  It is amazing the therapeutic abilities animals have.  We’ve wanted to take our chickens to care facilities for a while as they are an animal not a lot of people get to experience.  It was a lot of fun to see the smiles and visit with the residents while sharing something we are so passionate about.  We are thankful they had us, and look forward to going back on a monthly basis.
If you know a care facility near us that would like a visit, please email me at funkychickenrescue@gmail.com

  1. That’s a great idea. I bet lots of those old folks would have had chickens in their younger days. I used to follow Terry Goson’s HenCam blog and she was involved in setting up a chicken enclosure at a nursing home near her. The residents could line up their wheelchairs at the window overlooking the coop and watch the chickens going about their daily activities.

    1. YES! Several of these residents mentioned they raised chickens and Turkeys. I think it would be a lot of fun for them to have a coop at the facility… what a fun idea!!

  2. This is absolutely wonderful! I think that would be such an amazing project to launch. We as chicken lovers all know how much fun it is to stop and hang out a while and actually watch our chickens do their thing. Mine are absolutely entertaining to us! Wouldn’t that be a fantastic project to bring life to these amazing seniors!?! Are there any Scouts looking for a great project? Or schools?
